Lifepak CR2 lid magnet defect
Today we have been alerted to a product defect in the latch of the Lifepak CR2. The magnet in the latch that turns the Lifepak CR2 ON and OFF may drop out of its retainer. The consequence of the magnet not being in the latch is that the Lifepak CR2 does not turn off, this may lead to the battery going flat prematurely. The correct operation of the Lifepak CR2 requires a battery containing an adequate charge, if the battery is exhausted the defibrillator will not work.

The lid magnet is the primary means by which the device will turn on and off when the lid is opened or closed. If the lid magnet is missing, the device battery can deplete prematurely, even if the device is not powered on. When the magnet is missing, the user can still use the power button to turn the device on and off. The device will automatically turn off within five minutes after being powered on if no patient is detected by the device. If you identify that your device has a missing lid magnet, you may continue to use your LIFEPAK® CR2 device according to the operating instructions and the supplemental labelling attached to this email until you receive replacement parts.
It is vital that you locate any Lifepak CR2 units that you have in your control or immediately advise the person that has control of the unit/s and alert them to the issue. Every Lifepak CR2 in your control should be checked to ensure it is operational by checking that the readiness indicator light flashes green every six seconds, once you have confirmed the operation of your Lifepak CR2 please read the attached Urgent Product Defect Correction. If the Lifepak CR2 does not work please contact me as a matter of urgency.
The issue that I have advised you off today reminds owners of defibrillators, especially those used in the community or workplace, that the defibrillator should be visually inspected, by its owners, on a regular basis to confirm its operational readiness. Relying on external defibrillator service agents may lessen the awareness of the status of the defibrillator by those most likely to benefit from its use.
This problem does not affect other Lifepak defibrillator models.
